The Mardi Himal Trek is a short, increasingly popular trek in the Annapurna region, climbing through rhododendron forest to a narrow ridge directly beneath Machhapuchhre. Over the course of this itinerary, trekkers pass through Forest Camp, Low Camp, and High Camp before reaching the View Point and Base Camp at around 4,500 metres, with close-up views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli.

The Gosaikunda Lake Trek follows forest trails through Tamang villages and past the Sing Gompa monastery and cheese factory before climbing above the tree line to the sacred lake itself. The Tsum Valley Trek branches off the Manaslu Circuit at Lokpa and follows the Shiar Khola upstream through Chumling, Chhokangparo, and Nile to Mu Gompa at 3,700 metres, passing Milarepa's Cave and the Rachen Gompa nunnery along the way. Stone houses, mani walls, and prayer flags appear at every turn, and the valley's centuries-old ban on hunting and killing animals still shapes daily life here.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek follows the Budhi Gandaki river valley from Soti Khola through increasingly Tibetan villages to Samagaon, where Mount Manaslu towers directly overhead, before crossing Larkya La Pass to Bimtang and joining the Annapurna Circuit at Dharapani. Kept a restricted area since 1992, the route remains far quieter than the Annapurna or Everest trails.

The Phoksundo Lake Trek follows the Thuli Bheri and Phoksundo rivers from Juphal through Dunai, Chhepka, and Shyanta to Ringmo village, a traditional Bon settlement built on an ancient landslide dam that holds the lake in place. Unlike the longer Lower Dolpo Circuit, this trek is a direct out-and-back journey to the lake, making it a shorter, more accessible way to experience the remote Dolpo region.

What sets this trek apart, even from other restricted areas in Nepal, is how completely isolated it remains. Because Upper Dolpo requires a special government permit on top of the Shey Phoksundo National Park fee, and because the region only opened to trekkers in 1989, the villages along the route have kept traditions that have faded almost everywhere else in the Himalaya. The landscape itself shifts dramatically across the trek, from green forested valleys near Phoksundo Lake to the stark, high desert plateau around Shey Gompa and Saldang, giving the sense of crossing several distinct worlds in a single journey.

The Jomsom Muktinath Trek follows the Kali Gandaki, the world's deepest river gorge, between the towering peaks of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, passing through the Thakali villages of Jomsom and Marpha before reaching the sacred Muktinath Temple at 3,800 metres. Revered by both Hindus and Buddhists for its 108 sacred water spouts and eternal natural flame, Muktinath draws thousands of pilgrims each year who come to bathe in its icy streams, believed to wash away sins.

What makes this trek genuinely rare is how deliberately Mustang has kept tourism small since the trail first opened. Because the region sits in a rain shadow, it stays dry and walkable even during the summer monsoon, when most of Nepal disappears under cloud. The walled city of Lo Manthang itself feels less like a trekking destination and more like stepping into a living museum, with centuries-old monasteries, a former royal palace, and narrow lanes that have changed remarkably little since the kingdom's founding.
